TIGHTENING SKIN AFTER WEIGHT LOSS
Whether you’ve given birth to a baby or just lost a lot of weight, loose skin is something that many people deal with. While severely stretched skin may require surgery to appear firm again, there are several things you can do to improve your skin tightness without resorting to the knife. WATER It’s been said before and we’ll say it again – water is the cheapest medicine you can give your body. Aside from helping your body function optimally and repair itself, plain old H20 hydrates your skin and helps preserve and improve elasticity. EXERCISE Muscle tone can make a big difference in the appearance of your skin, which is one of many reasons why weight training is so important during weight loss. If you simply lose weight through cardio and crash dieting, your skin will end up looser as and less firm due to the lack of density beneath the surface. If you have loose skin on your belly after pregnancy, try building more abdominal muscles to fill out the empty skin – this alone often causes a huge improvement! EXFOLIATE Try dry-brushing or other kinds of exfoliating on a regular basis to improve circulation and speed up cell turnover. Exfoliation increases blood flow to the skin, which in turn helps with skin cell repair and renewal. LOTIONS There are a ton of products out there that promise firmer and more elastic skin, and some of them are better than others. Look for those that include Collagen, Vitamin E, C, A, and K – these ingredients have the most documented effects in terms of skin health, and lots of people swear they’ve seen amazing results, being a mom of twins, I seriously thought I’d never get my abs back exactly the way they were. I have one tip that works for whatever lotion you use – massage it into your body for a long time, to really get your blood flowing. If you do it after exfoliating, even better… I’m telling you, this simple trick works wonders!! TREATMENTS There are a ton of treatments out there that can help tighten loose skin, and personally I think the most exciting of them is a new invention called cryotherapy. Cryotherapy involves treatments that use freezing temperatures to encourage your blood vessels to contract and then dilate, which improves oxygen and nutrient supply to the skin surface. Results include tighter and more radiant skin as well as a reduction of fat and cellulite – pretty cool if you ask me.
